Firestorm: A Microcosm of Oppression in DC's "Legends of Tomorrow"

I began watching DCs Legends of Tomorrow over the weekend. I was a little behind so I marathoned the first four episodes and in general I enjoyed it. However, the relationship dynamics between Jefferson Jackson (So, you decided to name your only black character after two American presidents. Did they have to be slave owning presidents? What’re you trying to say, DC?) and Dr. Stein; the two halves of Firestorm have left my panties bunched.

On May 14, 2015, FOX gave us the television series Wayward Pines based on the book series by the same name written by Blake Crouch. The series starts with a brooding FBI agent Ethan Burke, sent on mission to find two missing agents. While en route, he and his partner are involved in a car crash. Ethan survives and awakens in the weird but seemingly idyllic town of Wayward Pines. The town even has it’s own motto: “Work Hard. Be happy. Enjoy your life in Wayward Pines.”

Sleepy Hollow's Casting Announcement Shows Its Priorities... and Its Failures

(Inda Lauryn has been published in Blackberry, A Magazine, Interfictions, The Toast, XOJane, and Callaloo as well as had her work featured on blogs such as Black Girl Nerds, Bitch Flicks, and AfroPunk. She is currently working on a novel and a sci-fi web series, occasionally blogs at Corner Store Press and hosts a radio show at MixCloud.)

Sleepy Hollow was an immediate success when it first premiered in the fall of 2013. Those of us who frequently livetweet had a blast with the first episode and were immediately hooked. By the time we got through the season finale of the 13-episode run, we were elated and thought we finally had the show we've wanted for years.

Then season 2 happened.

No Really, Turn On Your Location: How Not Taking A Side Only Supports Rape Culture

On the latest episode of Nerdgasm Noire Network, we talked about the recent development in the Bill Cosby sexual assault case. In the leaked court documents Bill Cosby states he bought Quaaludes with the intent to give them to young women with whom he wanted sex -- or in truer words to rape. On the episode, JP explains why the latter word is most accurate. This news led to a variety of responses from celebrities. Some were apologetic regarding their initial defense of Bill Cosby, like Jill Scott. Others were insistent of Bill Cosby’s innocence, confusing, and somehow included black and white photos of Martin Luther King Jr, like Faizon Love. However, the most annoying response came from those who are still waiting to say anything. There are those -- Whoopi Goldberg and Raven Symone in particular -- who believe that not enough evidence has come out to have any real opinion and would like to leave it at that.

Bitch Better Have My Intersectional Feminism or STFU About My Video

The concern troll posts were already up on yesterday morning. Somehow, after the video’s debut last night, pumpkin spice lattes were found in early July and the lobby of a Starbucks was open just late enough for White FeministsTM to type away about how unfeminist Rihanna is without taking in one important fact: not everything is for or about them.

Magic Mike XXL Review

Having only seen about half of the previous Magic Mike while in a drowsy haze (and being told it wasn’t very good), I didn’t expect the sequel to be much different. I thought perhaps it would hit that elusive “so bad, it’s good” mark and be great to torture friends with, much like how we turned Fifty Shades of Grey into Fifty Shades of Grey Goose. However, If not that, at least seeing these incredibly attractive guys do incredible things with their incredible bodies would be stimulating at the very least.
